This is achieved in Atlantica Online by allowing in-game guilds to control cities. These cities can grow by including numerous amenities, each serving a distinct purpose. The warfare system in Atlantica Online also permits the appearance of the mercenary system, or soldiers that will aid you in battle. Each mercenary can "evolve" and has unique skills. For instance, Spearman can undergo multiple evolutions and eventually become Zhao Yun, the class hero. The mercenaries you hire won't stick around forever. The mercenary will eventually retire, and you will need to find new ones and train them once more. This forces you to stay active, and once you've reached the greatest level, you'll go back to the previous area to find and train mercenaries.
